ABSTRACT

Stroke in the elderly has a high incidence rate and great harm. Strengthening the management of high-risk populations is the key to primary stroke prevention. Disease self-management has a better cost-effectiveness ratio. This article reviews the self-management of the elderly at high risk of stroke from the aspects of current situation, content and influencing factors of self-management.

ABSTRACT

Objective To compare the efficacy of CT-guided radiofrequency thermocoagulation (RFTC) treatment through the inside and outside of the foramen rotundum for primary trigeminal maxillary neuralgia. Methods Forty-eight patients of both sexes, aged 58-75 yr,suffering from primary trigeminal neuralgia the 2nd trigeminal branch pain, scheduled for elective CT-guided trigeminal RFTC,were divided into 2 groups (n =24 each) using a random number table:inside of foramen rotundum group and outside of foramen rotundum group. The needle was inserted until the lateral 1/3 of the foramen rotundum was reached under CT guidance in inside of foramen rotundum group or until the outside of the foramen rotundum was reached in outside of foramen rotundum group.High-temperature RFTC 95 ℃ was performed for 120 s,repeating for 2-3 cycles. The current sensory threshold at different frequencies was measured at 1 day before and after operation.Numeric rating scale score was performed at 1 day,30 days,1 yr and 2 yr after operation, effective RFTC treatment was defined as numeric rating scale score≤ 1,and the condition of postoperative effective RFTC treatment was recorded. The development of adverse reactions such as facial hematoma, corneal ulcer, injuring the other branch and cerebrovascular accidents was recorded. Results Compared with outside of foramen rotundum group, the current sensory threshold on the affected side at frequency of 2 000 Hz was significantly increased at 1 day after operation, the rate of effective RFTC treatment was increased 2 yr after operation (P<0.05),and no significant change was found in the incidence of postoperative facial hematoma in inside of foramen rotundum group (P>0.05).Conclusion The long-term curative effect of CT-guided RFTC treatment for primary trigeminal maxillary neuralgia through the inside of the foramen rotundum is better than that through the outside of foramen rotundum.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of low-salt diet on gene expression of canine cardiac tissue.

METHODSMicroarray data (GSE17149) of heart tissue from dogs fed with low-salt diet was obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO). The data were analyzed by Qlucore Omics Explorer 3.1, STRING 10.0, Genclip 2.0 and GCBI. The protein-protein interactions (PPI) of the differentially expressed genes in low-salt and control groups were conducted to screen the key node genes between the two groups.

RESULTSCompared with the control group, the gene expression profile of the dog heart tissue was changed in the low-salt diet group, and 1343 (3.12%) differentially expressed genes were found in 43 035 genes. The differentially expressed gene protein interaction analysis revealed a most obvious protein (NFKBIA) as the core, which might be related to inhibiting the differentiation of macrophage-derived foam cell and promoting cholesterol discharge and decomposition.

CONCLUSIONSGene expression of heart tissue in dogs fed with low-salt diet is significantly changed and low-salt diet may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by up-regulating the expression of NFKBIA.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo observe the hong-huang antioxidant on oxidative stress in patients with breast cancer during chemotherapy, including their related blood indexes, blood rheology changes, and the effects on TCM clinical symptoms and symptoms of stress.MethodsA total of 60 cases of breast cancer patients during chemotherapy from Jiangsu Province Hospital of TCM was randomly divided into treatment group and control group, 30 cases in each group. On the basis of conventional therapy, patients in treatment group were given hong-huang antioxidant (100 mL per bag) from the 1st day to the 14th day of chemotherapy, 2 bags for each day (morning and evening). Patients in control group were given foundation treatment the same as the treatment group. Patients in the two groups had their serum NO, the content of SOD, and blood rheology tested on the day before chemotherapy, and the 4th, 7th, 14th days during chemotherapy. Meanwhile, their symptom score and the integral of stress reaction and TCM symptoms were also assessed. ResultsOn the 4th day, serum NO of treatment group decreased, while SOD content increased, without statistical significance between the two groups (P>0.05). Serum NO on the 7th, 14th days was significantly lower than that in the control group, but the content of SOD was higher than that in the control group, with statistical significance between the two groups (P<0.05). Hemorheology on the 4th day significantly decreased after treatment (P<0.05), and was significantly better than that in the control group (P<0.05); Clinical symptoms and stress symptoms integral in the treatment group were significantly lower than those in the control group on the 4th, 7th, 14th days of chemotherapy, with statistical significance (P<0.05).Conclusion Hong-huang antioxidant can significantly improve the oxidative stress status, serological indexes, related blood rheology indexes, and clinical symptoms in patients with breast cancer.

ABSTRACT

Surface EMG (sEMG) signal is a complex nonlinear, non-stationary signal. In this paper, wavelet transform with nonlinear scale (NWT) is introduced. Due to the gradual shortening of its time-resolution, NWT is good at extracting the precise time-frequency information from sEMG signal. First, every sEMG signal (30 sets are for forearm supination and 30 sets are for forearm pronation) is transformed into intensity distribution (time-frequency distribution) by NWT. And then the feature vector is determined from the characteristic roots which are obtained from the intensity distribution by principle component analysis. At last, the two patterns of sEMG signals are identified by BP neural network. The results show that the accurate classification rate is higher gained by NWT than by two conventional time-frequency distributions. At the same time, the calculating complexity of neural network is decreased greatly.
